Overview of the project
Currently, Pittsburgh Archery supports one recreation project, with the plans and potential of expansion in the future. The first project is to convert an abandoned basketball court to a practice archery range.. The land is comprised of steep hillsides not usable for most recreation. The hillsides are a natural berm for an archery range.
Archery classes were conducted in temporary ranges set up in gyms with limited access. There are no permanent practice ranges in the City of Pittsburgh. Because of the Covid-19 restrictions. all temporary ranges were discontinued. An outdoor permanent and public archery range in the City of Pittsburgh will give all residents access to a practice archery range.
Pittsburgh Archery selected 7.7 acres that the City of Pittsburgh has owned since 1936. ‘Greenways for Pittsburgh Policy Guide’ states on page 70, ‘Typical uses include archery range, golf driving ranges, miniature golf course… A proposal was presented to the Mayor that would use 1.5 acres of the 7.7 acres for an archery range.
